Five years ago I was introduced to the amazing world of oceanography. During the past five years I have learned to love and respect the ocean.
I have been involved in several research projects and courses where data, ranging from nutrients and chlorophyll to sediments and echo-sounding depths, were collected by us, the students. These research projects and courses have helped me understand a little bit more about some of the processes that occur every day in the ocean (tides, runoff, currents, phytoplankton blooms, etc)
I enjoy spending the day out on the boat getting data or surveying a study area. I am currently volunteering at the Virginia aquarium where I serve as a dolphin watch assistant. As part of the Aquarium docent program, we take boats out to the coastal Atlantic Ocean to watch the dolphins' behaviors in their natural habitat and teach the public about their lives.
There is nothing better than spending a summer day out at the beach. I love aquatic sports such as Jet skies or water ski but I also like to play sports in the sand such as volleyball, soccer or paddles.
